CLARITY

Q. Dennis, why do people need clarity in their life.

A. Clarity is absolutely critical! It is the difference between living in a healthy environment or a toxic unhealthy environment.

It’s like this…this is probably the best illustration I can make.

Have you ever gone to a job and had a jacked-up job description, or no job description, and then your performance was based on the emotions of your supervisor as to whether or not you’re doing your job right or wrong?  Whether they be positive or negative emotions.

Or you didn’t get a step by step handbook and you don’t know where you start or where you stop. That is a sick, confusing and unhealthy environment. Compare that to the environment where you get a crisp, clear, dialed in job description with mission, vision, values, strategy, goals and objectives and then how to achieve those goals.

And then your evaluated to see if you are actually achieving those goals. Then you can actually get training on how to do that job. Also, the staff handbook should be clear, clean and simple. Then you’re not getting assignments slipped onto your desk where you don’t know what to do or how to do it, or when it’s due.

Clarity gives you control of your environment–psychologically, because you’re able to wrap your mind completely around it and understand and then manage it. It’s having boundaries given to you by somebody else saying “here’s your parameters, don’t go outside of it.”

And if you do go outside of it that’s great but you don’t have to, and then, because you’re fulfilling your job assignments efficiently, it makes it easier if you want to negotiate for salary or other benefits.

Also here’s another great example. A husband and wife. How about the wife who is giving mixed messages saying “hey you know what, I want you to be the leader. Take care of this and take care that.” The husband steps in and take care of it. Then he’s come down upon because he’s doing it wrong and then she goes ahead and starts taking care of it anyway.

That’s unclear! But when you talk about those assignments and identities, it provides the clarity that you need. You also need clarity in order to go through life. You definitely need it mentally.

There might be a condition you’re going through—anxiety, depression, anger, confusion. There could be a whole gamut of feelings that your undergoing. But just by getting the clarity of what it is goes a long way in solving the problem.

Your problem doesn’t even have to be fixed! But just by knowing what it is and how to take practical steps to move away from it provides clarity, and health, and relief.

Clarity for our peace of mind and emotional stability is absolutely critical!
